Mubarak bin Ali Al Rahbi, the Head of the Musandam Governor’s Office, shared that the festival is more than just a tourism event. He described it as a platform for showcasing Musandam’s stunning marine environment. He also emphasized that the event embodies Oman’s commitment to sustainable tourism development, aiming to position Musandam as a prominent marine tourism destination.
Al Rahbi highlighted that the festival also promotes the protection of the region’s marine treasures. He mentioned the event’s goal of building stronger partnerships between the local community and the tourism sector while creating investment opportunities in the thriving sector.
Badr bin Mohammed Al Shehhi, owner of the Musandam Diving Exploration Center, explained that the festival would focus on uncovering new diving sites while supporting local tourism businesses. He added that the event aims to create job opportunities in Musandam, particularly in diving and marine tourism.
Al Shehhi revealed that the festival would become an annual event, furthering the development of Musandam as a world-class diving destination. It will also feature various marine sports such as rowing, fishing, and swimming.
Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Shehhi, a member of the organizing committee, explained that the festival would span four days filled with diverse experiences. The event is a joint effort between the Musandam Governor’s Office and Musandam Diving Exploration Center, with support from government and private institutions. The participation of global divers, including professionals from the international PADI organization, enriches the festival.
Key events include an underwater photography competition, a kayak race, and a freediving challenge. These competitions offer participants the opportunity to test their skills in some of the region’s most picturesque waters. Additionally, there will be daily sessions with renowned divers and underwater photographers who will share their experiences.
One of the festival’s most exciting moments will be the attempt to break the Arabian Gulf’s deepest dive record at 114 meters. The event also highlights environmental initiatives, including a coral reef planting campaign and the region’s largest coral reef cleanup.
The festival will bring together a variety of organizations, including the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Oman Sea Diving Team, and the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, among others. These collaborations reinforce Musandam’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
